Join LSC's Forum on Closing the Justice Gap

Since our country's founding, America has struggled to realize the promise etched onto the Supreme Court building of "equal justice for all." Today, technological innovation and collaborative community support are two of the hallmarks in bridging the "Justice Gap." Join us for this free forum, part of a series recognizing the ��˶��’s 50^thanniversary, educating attendees about the justice gap, offering insights into solutions, and serving as a call-to-action for how each of us can play a role in making our nation's founding promise a reality.

This hybrid event is free and open to the public. Advance registration is recommended.

Grantees will learn how Lone Star Legal Aid (LSLA):

1. Identified a suitable artificial intelligence (AI) platform;

2. Compiled a research library for the chatbot to reference; and

3. Developed and implemented the coding infrastructure.

In this case study, learn how Idaho Legal Aid Services and Legal Aid of Western Michigan implemented action plans to help clientele in danger of losing housing during COVID-19.

Model Practices and Innovations: Eviction and COVID-19 Cases

Grantees will learn how Idaho Legal Aid Services (ILAS) and Legal Aid of Western Michigan (LAWM):

1. Accommodated the influx of housing and eviction assistance requests during COVID-19;

2. Created informative videos to educate the community about the eviction process; and

3. Spearheaded a statewide eviction diversion program (EDP) to provide early intervention.

Hear from Jacob Workman, Managing Attorney at ILAS, and Karen Tjapkes, Director of Litigation at LAWM, about managing an influx of civil legal aid requests and the expanding number of low-income individuals and families receiving eviction assistance during COVID-19.
