One of the highlights of LSC’s 2016 Technology Initiative Grants (TIG) Conference was a session titled, “,” which covered many of the technology issues related to business continuity. Specifically, presenters covered data backup solutions and common issues, replication of data and services, fail-over of services, as well as recovery at secondary sites, including community partner locations, commercial providers, and using many individual locations (i.e., homes, libraries, and coffee shops). How to Write for Clients
The importance of writing clearly, concisely, and effectively, with clients in mind, can’t be overstated. Poorly written or structured information on web pages can be yet another hurdle for people to receive the legal help they need.
It’s easy to write anything on the internet, but it’s harder to write well. There are many considerations that come into play when writing for the web, among them, writing in plain language. The content of a legal aid website should be understandable by a wide audience to accommodate those with limited literacy.
Mapping Data Using a Geographic Information System
A geographic information system (GIS) is a computer system for mapping data such as case closures, outcomes, limited English proficiency, and more. Several LSC grantees use GIS to provide spatial insight into their service delivery, visualize the demographics of the client-eligible population, and analyze trends over time. LSC uses GIS to create maps to provide information for Program Quality Visits, Disaster Relief Emergency Grants, service delivery, and locating the need for legal aid.
Basics of GIS Mapping
A GIS (“Geographical Information Systems”) map displays data in a visual format. It is essentially a database combined with spatial or geographic information.
Plotting information on top of a map can reveal data relationships that would otherwise be difficult to see.
Mapping with Google Fusion Tables: The Basics
Google Fusion Tables is an online application that turns data sets into interactive visualizations, including charts, graphs, and maps. Once your visualization is finished, you can embed it on your website the same way you would embed a YouTube video.
